The Mage Pocket: Apprentice Alliance, is recommended for ages 10-14. It was written for kids who love epic fantasy action-adventure series, such as—
Keeper of the Lost Cities
The Mysterious Benedict Society
Harry Potter
The Green Ember
The Wingfeather Saga
Thus, similar to those epic series, you can expect magical fight scenes, minor blood and injuries, magical memory loss, dark themes and some scary adult characters. If it was a movie it would be rated PG13.
The characters cast spells using electricity from light. One character sums up the magic system by saying; “According to history, all humans were given the opportunity to create with the light of the world. But it’s up to them if they create, and what they create, for better or worse.”
A main character uses playful insults such as “bacon-brain” and made-up exclamations like “zooks!”
There is no romance.
The length is 78,000 words, 380 pages. It contains some longer words that new readers may need help with, but is perfect for those advanced readers who fly through books.
I read aloud The Mage Pocket: Apprentice Alliance to my then 9-year-old little sister and she absolutely loved it! However, all kids are different. If you have any questions regarding content, feel free to drop them in the comments below!
