Summer Reading (a poem)

Fingers on my left hand

going numb around a can of ginger ale

Dripping condensation

Fingers on my right hand

Holding the paperback, hot sunlight lancing through the car window and across the page

Uneasy green trees, glaring blue sky, fierce air conditioning

And

Printed

Ink

On

Paper

Yellow shoes, denim shorts, rumbling tires on pavement

And

Cliffhangers

In

Chapter

Seventeen
