Hello hello everyone!
I have so much exciting news for you guys today! Big things are happening, especially on The Mage Pocket front, so if you’re interested in seeing some new art, an update on the audiobook process, or a special giveaway, keep reading.
Without further ado, onto the authorly updates!
Apprentice Alliance wins Moonbeam Gold Medal
I’m thrilled to announce that The Mage Pocket: Apprentice Alliance has won the gold medal in the Fantasy/SciFi category of the Moonbeam Children’s Book Awards!
This is Apprentice Alliance’s 3rd award placement! It also won Gold in the Realm Awards, and a SPARK Honor. I’m thrilled to see Theo and Sorrel’s story connecting with so many people.
NEW Official Maeve Art!!
As I make progress on the Mage Pocket full cast audiobook, I’ve also been working with a lovely artist, Thérèse Gretencord, who is drawing full-color illustrated thumbnails for all 33 episodes that will be airing on YouTube!
Yes! That’s right! When it is released the full cast audiobook will be available for free on my YouTube channel.
And today, you guys get a special peek at our official character design for The Dark Mage herself, Maeve Aeron…
Isn’t it stunning? Thérèse is so incredibly talented and it’s been a blast working with her. I love collaborating with artists to bring a story to life!
I’m still deep in the editing process for the audiobook, but I’m aiming for a release date in late November, so keep an eye out!
Interviews and Givaways
I recently did a couple of different interviews with Avid Readers of Christian Fiction to talk about The Mage Pocket: Apprentice Alliance, winning the Realm Award, and my process for writing a series. You can also enter their giveaway for a chance to win your own free copy of Apprentice Alliance!
Hutchmoot Adventures
Earlier this month I went on a delightful adventure to Franklin TN for the Hutchmoot conference, and to participate in a book signing at Landmark Booksellers with the rest of my Bandersnatch friends!
I shared an AirBnB with some dear writer friends of mine, Sarah Burns and Gabby Knoll, and got to spend a lot of time with Sarah Rainey in person! Overall, the conference was a soul-refreshing experience.
Although my friend group may have devolved into a light civil war over wether we should be called The Fluffle or The Conspiracy.
*cough cough * The Conspiracy is clearly superior. *cough cough *
If you have never been to Hutchmoot… imagine a fictional, magical school, with rambling woods and bustling hallways, brick walls and sunlit courtyards where people occasionally sit smoking pipes. Now imagine that instead of magic, you’re being taught about art, that everywhere you turn people are playing harps and painting watercolor, reciting poems, and discussing books.
Sounds like a dream? It is—a dream brought to life.
Join Me for Books & Blocks Today!
Some of you know, some of you don’t, but for the couple months I’ve been livestreaming playing Minecraft on my YouTube channel every Saturday. I’m playing on a server with some of my writer and artist friends, and we work together building places from books and getting up to general Minecraft shenanigans.
Right now, we’re building the world of A Letter, a Lighthouse, and a Ghost Cat, joined by the illustrator herself, Sarah Rainey! Feel free to join us today at 3 PM CT or catch up on our previous blocky adventures.
Docendo disco, scribendo cogito.

Oh wow! I am so excited for the Mage Pocket Audiobook! (It is my favorite book by the way) You are highly deserving of all those awards Millie. And yes, Mage Pocket has been an inspiration. Thank you for sharing!
(P.S. Not to stir up another world war, but The Conspiracy is better)
Yay so excited!
Congrats on another award!
I can’t encounter the word “Fluffle” without thinking of *Month of the Novel*, in which (in Season 2) “Mr. Fluffles” is both the (tiny) stuffed animal that The Writer uses as her confidant when she gets stuck and her chosen username on a writing forum/chat room she joins. (That episode was particularly memorable for me because I took part in the in-chat-room scene 🙂 )
This is so exciting!! You are such a roll-model to me, Millie, and I love all your books and stories and videos so much! Thanks for being you!
(And I am over-the-moon eager to hear the audio book!!)
